HANA@your BI Landscape

SAP Analytics

customers who are using SAP ERP and BW as their enterprise data-warehouse , its the time to think and do a due-diligence to upgrade your BI landscape with HANA . Having worked over a decade in Business Intelligence and Performance management area , my take-away is that most of the customer are using Business intelligence for all kind of reporting , be it operational or analytical. BI tools like Business Object, Cognos , Bex  are used as a tool for data provisioning and for simple analysis also Business users download the data in an XL and develops their own analytics . we have been preaching for self -service reporting for many years but unfortunately none of the clients have used self -service in full capacity because one of the main reason was slow performance . How we used to brand the drag & drop feature of Bex ,BO and Cognos but the time it takes to show the information makes the business users crazy .

Need Of hour is that business user get the complete picture of the business problem and the complete story of the root-cause . what happens today is that report or the dashboard is able to show the business problem but the story behind the problem is missing . Most of the companies are going back to the stone-age wherein an analyst run the report and share the output in an XL  . This brings lot of  back & forth to explain the data issue , report issue  and if any question comes from the CXO then that put the entire team into pressure .

2nd Issue which I see is about the replication of the information and making the solution complex  . Sometime Creating aggregate table or sometimes Materialized view or sometime using accelerator and most of the time boosting our knowledge on star & galaxy schema ... with the induction of HANA or like system , this complexity would go away .

3rd   is real-time analytic : Most of the business user raise these concern that why there is a lag in the BI report . and if we have a BW , our answer is "this is what our system is ". In order to overcome this , we , the service providers suggested the customer to create two reports , one in the ECC system and the other in BW  and duplicating the effort .

4th is the Simplification of the SAP analytics Landscape: SAP acquired business object somewhere in 2008 and since then released countless versions .  After reading many blogs on the web it seems SAP has finalized its BI landscape and it looks pretty simple as of now . With Induction of Hana SAP has simplified its official reporting platform as well.
